The successful applicant will be employed by East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust (ELHT) along with three other Palliative Medicine Consultants.
This post provides medical support and leadership within the hospice and community settings. It is predominantly based at East Lancashire Hospice and includes sessions in the communities of Blackburn with Darwen, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley and some responsibilities as part of the specialist palliative care team at ELHT.
East Lancashire Hospice is a purpose-built hospice serving the population of Blackburn, Darwen, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley. The 10 bedded inpatient unit admits patients for symptom control, assessment, complex case management and care in the last days of life. There is a well-established Support and Wellbeing Service.
East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust lies nestled in the heart of Lancashire. The Trust operates over two acute sites and provides community services for East Lancashire. Our principal site at Royal Blackburn Hospital is close to East Lancashire Hospice and is just 40 minutes from Manchester and less than an hour from Liverpool.

The Consultant will join the specialist palliative care team at ELHT, which includes Palliative Medicine Consultants, Specialist Palliative Care CNSs, Palliative Care Lead Nurse and End of Life Care Facilitator.
The team works across the acute hospitals of ELHT and in the community of East Lancashire CCG and is exploring options for 7 day working.
Close working relationships exist with the three local hospices and the post holder will work collaboratively with the medical team and senior management at East Lancashire Hospice.
There is an attractive job plan, typically 10 PA’s (7.5 PA’s for direct clinical care and 2.5 PA’s for supporting professional activity).
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
