Job overview

The role of a Staff Nurse is highly regarded within East Lancashire’s Endoscopy Service. Endoscopy services are functional on all 3 sites within East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, and the successful candidate will be expected to work across sites. The Blackburn Endoscopy team work in a busy department currently with three procedure rooms operational over 7 days of the week, carrying out a wide variety of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and investigations. We deliver high standards of care to all our patients and are looking for a keen and motivated person to work alongside of our friendly, hardworking team.

Main duties of the job

  • Establish a safe working environment for staff and patients, ensuring patient’s privacy and dignity at all times and working within the provision of Single Sexed Accommodation.
  • Arrange the reception, admission, implementation of care, recovery and nurse led discharge of patients following the Endoscopy Nursing Care Pathway protocols and documentation.
  • Take responsibility for a group of patients and act as team leader where appropriate
  • Provide competent assistance during a range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and ensure support and reassurance to patients undergoing same.
  • Gain understanding and occasional participation of the decontamination processes of all endoscopic equipment and have awareness of general and specific infection control measures and related issues
  • Perform I.V. cannulation and venepuncture as required
  • Maintain appropriate department documentation
  • Co-ordination of moving & handling needs of patients
  • Competent I.T. skills
  • General cleaning of clinical areas and equipment in accordance with Infection Control Policies.
  • Assist in maintenance of adequate stock levels
  • Utilise resources effectively and contribute to department’s Cost Improvement Programme
  • Mentor junior staff, students and cadets.

  • Registered Nurse – 1 st Level
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching/Assessing qualification Post Registration Endoscopy related Qualification

Experience

  • Recent Acute Hospital Nursing Experience

  • Endoscopy Experience Gastroenterology Experience
