At East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust our vision is to be widely recognised for providing safe, personal and effective care.  We currently provide high quality services and treat over 600,000 people across East Lancashire and the surrounding area. We employ over 8,000 staff, many of whom are internationally renowned and have won awards for their work.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team on the newly opened Surgical Assessment Unit and the Surgical Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit.

Do you want to work in an environment that makes you feel valued and proud of the outstanding high quality personal care that our team delivers?

We are looking for highly motivated Staff Nurses who enjoy a fast paced supported working environment and have an interest in acute surgery?

We have recently opened an innovative Surgical Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit (SAECU) which is a service open 24/7 taking ambulatory patients which require an acute assessment. This is a nurse led unit, closely supported by on call surgical team which includes consultant surgeons, speciality registrars, Core trainees, junior doctors, advanced nurse practitioners and physician associates.

Alongside SAECU opening this has allowed the surgical assessment unit to expand its bed capacity to 24 beds caring for in-patients with a wide range of conditions.

We cover multiple specialities including general surgery, urology, vascular, orthopaedics, ENT and max-fax and have on call teams to support their care. It is a fast paced unit with a high turnover of patients that is staffed with a highly driven, professional and friendly team.

Due to the evolvement of our surgical services, the successful candidates will have the opportunity to work in both areas making this an interesting and exciting job opportunity.

We are passionate about professional development, offering various opportunities for gaining clinical skills to enhance patient care. You will be personally supported by our onsite practice educators to achieve your full potential.

We are looking for highly enthusiastic and committed staff nurses to deliver high quality holistic nursing care to our patients and to join our forward thinking and ever developing team. You should have good communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to work effectively as part of the team and deal with complex sensitive information in a professional manner.

Candidates joining the Trust without previous NHS experience will commence at the bottom of the salary scale.  This will be discussed in more detail at the interview.

We are keen to reflect our local population and therefore applicants from all sectors of the community are welcomed.

Dear Potential Applicant,

It is important you are made aware of the changes which East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust has implemented with regard to charging for the cost of undertaking Disclosure and Barring Scheme (DBS) Checks (previously known as Criminal Records Bureau or CRB) and how this may impact upon you.

As this position is exempted from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and involves work that is identified as a regulated activity as defined in the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (2006), any offer of employment is provisional upon a satisfactory DBS check being obtained.

The cost of an Enhanced Disclosure will be £48.00, which includes a small handling fee.

In line with other NHS organisations in the North West Region, the Trust is now passing the charge for undertaking a DBS check on to candidates in the event they are successfully appointed into the post for which they have applied.  Candidates can choose whether to pay this over 1-3 months as a deduction from the monthly salary.  By applying for this vacancy you are agreeing to this undertaking in the event you are successfully appointed.
