At East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust our vision is to be widely recognised for providing safe, personal and effective care.  We currently provide high quality services and treat over 600,000 people across East Lancashire and the surrounding area. We employ over 8,000 staff, many of whom are internationally renowned and have won awards for their work.

An exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Senior Sister has arisen on the Endoscopy Unit at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital, which is one of the three endoscopy units at East Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. The successful candidate will become one of two band 7’s within the endoscopy service.  The role includes leading nursing teams and working closely with the consultants, nurse endoscopists and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure safe personal and effective care for patients undergoing endoscopic procedures.

The role is vital to the success of endoscopy services and has wide ranging support including an operational manager, lead nurse endoscopist and a full time practice educator and includes working closely with other Specialist teams caring for patients undergoing a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. The endoscopy units at East Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust carry out around 20,000 endoscopic procedures each year and provide a high quality service to patients across the area.

The successful candidate will have a strong interest in developing new staff and a proactive approach to delivering a high standard of evidence based care. They must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge and understanding of current issues in endoscopy, and have experience of service development. The services values experience and skills learnt elsewhere and will work with you to enable those skills, to be utilised and developed further. There will be the opportunity for further study including Leadership and Management courses.

Do you have what it takes to be a lead a team in a fast paced environment? Are you looking for a new challenge and an opportunity to develop new skills? Do you have an interest in endoscopy?

Are you a change agent, an innovator a leader?

If the answer to these questions is yes, then this is the perfect opportunity for you!

Dear Potential Applicant,

It is important you are made aware of the changes which East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust has implemented with regard to charging for the cost of undertaking Disclosure and Barring Scheme (DBS) Checks (previously known as Criminal Records Bureau or CRB) and how this may impact upon you.

As this position is exempted from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and involves work that is identified as a regulated activity as defined in the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (2006), any offer of employment is provisional upon a satisfactory DBS check being obtained.

The cost of an Enhanced Disclosure will be £48.00, which includes a small handling fee.

In line with other NHS organisations in the North West Region, the Trust is now passing the charge for undertaking a DBS check on to candidates in the event they are successfully appointed into the post for which they have applied.  Candidates can choose whether to pay this over 1-3 months as a deduction from the monthly salary.  However, if you are applying for a post as a BANK worker, the payment must be made in full at the time of employment checks. By applying for this vacancy you are agreeing to this undertaking in the event you are successfully appointed.
