At East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust our vision is to be widely recognised for providing safe, personal and effective care.  We currently provide high quality services and treat over 600,000 people across East Lancashire and the surrounding area. We employ over 8,000 staff, many of whom are internationally renowned and have won awards for their work.

Brownhill Surgery are looking for an enthusiastic qualified Graduate Physician Associates (GPA) to develop their skills in a two year post (that may include their preceptorship year).

The PA will work within the general practice within East Lancashire and support our multidisciplinary working approach (6 sessions per week). The role will also involve time at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust (ELHT) during the week (3 sessions per week) in a specified specialty (Year 1 Medicine for Older People and year 2 Psychiatry) for 12 months at a time, plus 1 session of education per week.

The role of the PA is dynamic and the post-holder will be proactive and supported in pioneering and developing this role further in response to challenging healthcare needs and advances in practice with particular consideration being given to working and developing services for patients across the primary and secondary care interface.

You will be expected to work alongside Doctors, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, pharmacists, nursing staff and allied health professionals to ensure you can deliver excellent patient care in your allocated GP practice and at the Royal Blackburn Hospital.

Physician Associates must have a dedication to best practice and a passion for improving health outcomes.

Successful applicants will be supported in their development as PAs through high quality clinical supervision and access to relevant modules and negotiated study leave to support your development.   Continuing Professional Development is an essential element to the PA role.

It is essential for applicants to hold as minimum a PG Diploma in Physician Associate Studies from a recognised University and to have passed the UK Physician Associate National Exam. Applicants will be required to register on the Faculty of Physician Associates (FPA) Managed Voluntary Register (FPMVR) before employment commences.

Shortlisted candidates will be expected to bring a portfolio and one of your referees should be able to    comment on your clinical competence.

All shortlisted candidates will be required to attend for interview (tbc)

Above all, we need PAs who are motivated and enthusiastic with a “can do” attitude who will deliver quality services with compassion.

Dear Potential Applicant,

It is important you are made aware of the changes which East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust has implemented with regard to charging for the cost of undertaking Disclosure and Barring Scheme (DBS) Checks (previously known as Criminal Records Bureau or CRB) and how this may impact upon you.

As this position is exempted from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and involves work that is identified as a regulated activity as defined in the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (2006), any offer of employment is provisional upon a satisfactory DBS check being obtained.

The cost of an Enhanced Disclosure will be £48.00, which includes a small handling fee.

In line with other NHS organisations in the North West Region, the Trust is now passing the charge for undertaking a DBS check on to candidates in the event they are successfully appointed into the post for which they have applied.  Candidates can choose whether to pay this over 1-3 months as a deduction from the monthly salary.  By applying for this vacancy you are agreeing to this undertaking in the event you are successfully appointed.
