Job overview
We are seeking a suitably qualified, enthusiastic, motivated medical audio-typist/clerical assistant to support our team of experienced medical secretaries within the Diabetes Unit at Royal Blackburn Hospital. You will be joining a friendly team of medical secretaries and, as such, you will be an accomplished and flexible team player.
The post holder will undertake a wide range of secretarial, administrative and clerical duties with specific responsibilities. A large part of the workload is predominantly digital audio-transcription of clinic letters and other correspondence. The ideal candidate will have at least 12 months experience of audio-transcription experience, as well as experience of working in a busy, demanding office role.
Knowledge of the electronic Winscribe digital dictation system would also be advantageous, but not essential as training will be given. Medical terminology would also be advantageous, but not essential as training will be given
Main duties of the job
The main responsibilities of this role are to support the medical secretaries with their clinic typing. You will also be responsible for delivering and collecting case notes to and from Medical Records and Clinics. You will also be required to track in case notes waiting to be typed and distribute case notes appropriately as necessary.
You will have a calm demeanour under pressure and you will be able to prioritise and manage your workload, sometimes with minimal supervision.

EDUCATION
Essential criteria
- GCSE English at ‘C’/ numerical equivalent grade or above
- RSA/OCR II Typewriting or RSA/OCR Word Processing
- RAS/OCR Audio Typewriting or proven ability of an equivalent level of skill
Desirable criteria
- RSA/OCR Medical Audio-Typewriting
JOB EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- 6 months in a similar role/secretarial team
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- 12 months audio typing experience
