East Lancashire NHS Trust is seeking to appoint an outstanding Director of Finance to shape the financial structure, direction and reputation of the Trust both internally, across Pennine Lancashire and Lancashire and South Cumbria system.
East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust (ELHT) was established in 2003 and is a large integrated health care organisation providing high quality acute secondary healthcare for the people of East Lancashire and Blackburn with Darwen. We employ 8,000 staff, some of whom are award winning and internationally renowned for their work and achievements. We treat over 700,000 patients a year from the most serious of emergencies to planned operations and procedures. Our high quality healthcare services are offered across five hospital sites, and various community sites.

Our new Finance Director will join a high performing Executive Team who have achieved significant progress in the delivery of our operational plan and strategic objectives. This role comes at an exciting time in the development of Pennine Lancashire ICP and therefore offers the opportunity to contribute to the development and delivery of our ambitious transformation and Improvement agenda. We are seeking an experienced finance professional with a strong track record of leadership and financial management obtained at or near Board level in a complex environment.  As one of 7 participants in NHS Improvement’s Vital Signs Improvement Programme, the successful candidate will also bring expertise in improvement methodology as the lead for the programme across the Trust and the ICP.

Strong leadership, interpersonal and negotiation skills will be essential and you will bring the gravitas to influence and engage our stakeholders in the Trust and externally. Commercially astute and adaptable, you will bring your expertise and knowledge to the Board and will inspire our dedicated Finance, Contracting, Information, Procurement, Estates and Facilities and I.T. teams. Most importantly you will share our values and put patients first in the delivery of Safe, Personal and Effective Care.

It is important you are made aware of the changes which East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust has implemented with regard to charging for the cost of undertaking Disclosure and Barring Scheme (DBS) Checks (previously known as Criminal Records Bureau or CRB) and how this may impact upon you.

A Standard Disclosure is needed for this role as there is a requirement for regular contact with children or vulnerable adults but the job does not involve the need to directly work with these groups.  This is called Controlled Activity.  Therefore any offer of employment is provisional upon a satisfactory Standard DBS check being obtained.

Presently the cost of a Standard Disclosure is £30.00 including a small handling fee.

In line with other NHS organisations in the North West Region, the Trust is now passing the charge for undertaking a DBS check on to candidates in the event they are successfully appointed into the post for which they have applied.  Candidates can choose whether to pay this over 1-3 months as a deduction from the monthly salary.  By applying for this vacancy you are agreeing to this undertaking in the event you are successfully appointed.
